RE-TREE-T TO THE FOREST WITH MACDONALD RESORTS
With the clocks set to spring forward at the end of March, many will be looking forward to the prospect of warmer months ahead and the addition of another hour in the evenings is also perfect for making the most of the lighter nights, particularly if it involves embracing the great outdoors.
As a nation, it is reported that we spend up to 90%* of our days inside, often in front of screens as a result of technological advances. Our busy lifestyles have meant that it can be easy to forget the importance of spending time outside but time in nature provides us with the opportunity to relax and recuperate – necessities which maintain our health and well-being.
Spending time outdoors has also shown to have significant physical and mental benefits with recent research finding that those who experience natural environments, such as forests, have shown signs of enhanced clarity, concentration and creativity, as well as reduced inflammation, boosted immunity, decreased heart rate and blood pressure**. Spending time in nature has also shown to ease anxiety and depression, particularly when combined with exercise, such as going for a walk in the forest**.
Macdonald Resorts is encouraging people to make the most of the lighter days and get back to nature this spring. Each of Macdonald’s five UK resorts are located within striking forestry and national parks, including Cairngorms National Park, Queen Elizabeth Forest in the Trossachs, the New Forest in Hampshire and Dyfi Forest in Snowdonia, providing the perfect opportunity for families and friends to relax amongst some of the UK’s finest scenery. Many of the resorts are also surrounded by woodland, meaning guests can wake up amongst the trees, immediately benefiting from a calming environment.
Commenting, Michael Stott from Macdonald Resorts, said: “The change in clocks habitually gets people thinking about spring and with the lighter nights, and hopefully warmer temperatures, comes the opportunity to spend more time outdoors. Time away with family and friends is a great way to unwind and reap the benefits of downtime but it also provides an opportunity to spend more time embracing the positive effects of nature which can often be one of the first things to go in today’s digitally driven society.
“Our collection of resorts are located to take advantage of some of the UK’s most beautiful woodland locations. Whether it’s a simple woodland walk, to a round of golf or even exploring the local surroundings by bike or horse, there’s something for guests of all ages to experience in the outdoors.”
Located across the UK from coast to country, Macdonald Resorts offer unrivalled flexibility with self-catering accommodation and a host of leisure facilities such as swimming pools, gyms, tennis courts, spas, bars and restaurants as well as picnic sites and woodland trails all onsite. Many of the resorts are dog friendly, ensuring guests can reap the benefits of being outdoors whilst accompanied by their favourite four-legged friends.
