About St Andrews Botanic Garden Lecture Series: Professor James Hitchmough

James Hitchmough is best known for pioneering design work, including the London 2012 Olympic Park, Oxford Botanic Garden and Wakehurst Place, and his publications, such as ‘The Dynamic Landscape’ and ‘Sowing Beauty’, which have changed the way landscape designers use plants.

Although best known for his work with meadows and herbaceous perennials, James has worked extensively with trees and shrubs, developing a pioneering system known as ‘the woody meadow’ which challenges many of our ideas about what a meadow can be.

Since 2010, James Hitchmough has travelled extensively in China, working with Chinese agencies to increase the plant diversity of Designed Landscapes in Chinese cities through collecting in the habitat, and sharing these ideas. In this talk James will focus on his travels, looking at plants in the wild in China.

Location: St Andrews Bowling Club, 1 Pipeland Rd, St Andrews KY16 8JN
