The Magnetic Sun - Professor Lynsey Fletcher

About The Magnetic Sun - Professor Lynsey Fletcher

We are delighted to welcome Professor Lynsey Fletcher, a solar physicist at University Of Glasgow, who specialises in solar flares. As the Suns activity is increasing as it enters its maximum phase in the solar cycle, Prof. Fletcher will be presenting an exciting talk on ‘The Magnetic Sun’

"Our nearest star, the Sun, provides us with the energy necessary for life on Earth. But it can also pose a threat, due to its magnetic field, which is constantly being regenerated in its interior, and expelled into space in violent explosions known as coronal mass ejections.
In this talk I will give an overview of the Sun's magnetic personality, including some ideas about where the magnetic field comes from, its fascinating and often very beautiful consequences such as sunspots, active regions, solar flares and coronal mass ejections, and the impact of these on Earth."

This event is FREE for Astro Club members.

New members are very welcome, if you LOVE all things space & astronomy, then Dalgety Bay Astronomy Club is the place to be! Come join our incredible community of like-minded people. Your first visit is on the house! Find out more about our membership options on the night.
