This summer, the 'Space to Breathe' annual art exhibition at Bowhouse will be celebrating the centenary of ground-breaking British artist Sheila Girling, with the largest retrospective of her work to date.
Most of the works will be for sale.
Over 90 of Girling's large scale paintings and collages from the early 1970s to the 2010s will showcase her enormous talent at combining fine layers of colour and collage to express emotion and form, from her early abstract paintings influenced by American post War art, to her more figurative work and paper collage around the turn of the century.
Alongside Girling's work will be a selection of important sculptures by her husband and artistic collaborator, Sir Anthony Caro - considered one of the most significant sculptors of the 20th Century.
