Contained in many of the church buildings marked for closure are organs of national, historical, or musical significance. One such instrument is housed at the historic 'Auld Kirk' of St Monans; originally built around 1850 by the London organ builder John Flight and was partly remodelled in 1935.
Members of the public are invited to a free event during which this historic Flight organ will be heard in solo repertoire performed by Chris Bragg (University of St Andrews) and Andrew Forbes (Glasgow Cathedral) and in partnership with cellist Andrew Huggan. The history of the organ will be highlighted, the redundant organ problem in Scotland discussed, and a plan to support surveys of the currently threatened, significant organs in Fife churches will be presented.
This event is co-sponsored by Sowne of Organe and Sacred Landscapes of Fife.
Venue: 'Auld Kirk', Burnside, St Monans, KY10 2BX
Where possible we will update our listings to notify of cancelled, postponed and rescheduled events, however we STRONGLY ADVISE that you check with the venue/organiser in the first instance for updates.
