It could be a bird, an animal or why not make a funky wreath or bouquet of flowers.
In this all-day workshop, you will learn how to prepare and cut the tin; how to emboss and add texture; how to incorporate buttons, feathers and other materials; and how to use a pop riveter or wire to connect pieces together. After a short introductory exercise, you will have plenty of time to work on your own project. No experience of metalwork required, just come along and have fun trying something new.
What to bring
All tools and materials will be supplied but bring along any of your own tins you’d like to use. There will be lots of examples on hand for inspiration as well as templates and a wide selection of reference books but do bring along your own drawings and source materials if you have something specific in mind.
About your Tutor
Philippa Johnston is a metalwork artist based in Dunning in Perthshire who works sculpturally with recycled tin, wire, clay and other materials. Her work reflects her love of animals and birds and her fascination with folk and children’s art. She opens the doors to her studio each year as part of Perthshire Open Studios.
