Free Grow How session at Dobbies
With the warmer weather it’s important to take care of your summer bedding plants so they continue to thrive, while also remaining sustainable. Dobbies, the UK’s leading garden centre, is hosting a free Grow How session across its stores to show customers how to care for their garden as the temperature soars.
Suitable for both amateur and seasoned gardeners, the interactive Grow How session takes place on Saturday 1 July at 10:30am where Dobbies' horticultural experts will showcase the different varieties of plants to add a splash of colour to your garden this summer and how to look after them. Geranium, New Guinea Impatiens and summer hanging baskets, are just a handful of the fantastic summer blooms that can be planted up now for seasonal impact.
Attendees will learn how to keep their plants in peak condition over the summer months, tops tips for sustainable watering and feeding, as well as getting the chance to ask Dobbies’ expert any gardening questions, from why your plants are not flowering to where best to position your plants in the summer sun.
Dobbies’ Horticultural Director, Marcus Eyles, said: “With the high temperatures across the UK it is important to take extra care of your summer plants to help them bloom, while also considering how to water, feed and look after them in a sustainable way. Anyone attending our free Grow How event will have the chance to chat with our experts and get bespoke advice that will help their garden thrive this summer.”
Marcus’ shares a step-by-step guide on how to keep your garden looking good all summer long:
• One of the biggest differences you can make to your garden during summer is to water effectively and in
a sustainable way. Water the soil around your plants to make sure it gets to the roots
• Get a water butt to collect rain
• Mulch with compost all through the summer to conserve moisture in the soil
• Feed your plants regularly with Dobbies’ own brand Organic Plant Feed – there is a new range of plant
feeds from £3.99
• As summer progresses and some plants finish flowering, you might find that your garden starts to look less colourful. Summer bedding plants are a great way to add in some instant summer colour and fill in any gaps
• Deadhead your summer flowering plants to keep them flowering throughout the summer
